SKILL LEVEL:                     Intermediate

FINISHED SIZE:                  12” square

MATERIALS:                        Worsted weight yarn
                                                Crochet hook size H / 5.0 mm
                                                Tapestry needle

STITCH GUIDE:                  Sc = single crochet
                                                Hdc= half double crochet
                                                Dc= double crochet


SPECIAL STITCHES:       

REVERSE POPCORN (RPC): Work 5 dc in st indicated, drop loop from hook, insert
hook from back to front through top of first st made, pull dropped loop through
st. Push out from back to front for Popcorn to stand out.

CLUSTER: *Yo, insert hook in sp indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and draw through 2 loops on hook; rep from * once more, yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

BPDC: Yo, insert hook from back to front to back around post of corresponding stitch below, yo and pull up loop [yo, draw through 2 loops on hook] 2 times.


COMMENCE PATTERN:

Rnd. 1: With Color A ch 2, 8 sc in first ch, join with sl st to beg sc. (8 sc)

Rnd. 2: Ch 3, 1 dc in same st, ch 3, *in next st work Cluster, ch 3, rep from * around, join with sl st to top of beg Cluster. Finish off. (8 Clusters and 8 ch-3 sps)
Rnd. 3: Attach Color B with sl st to top of any Cluster, ch 4 (counts as first hdc plus ch 2), work RPC in next ch-3 sp, ch 2, *hdc in next Cluster, ch 2, work RPC in next ch-3 sp, ch 2, rep from * around, join with sl st to 2nd ch of beg ch-4. Finish off. (8 RPC’s and 16 ch-2 sps)
Rnd. 4: Attach Color C to any hdc with sl st, ch 1, sc in same st and in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, skip next RPC, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next hdc, ch 2, skip next RPC, sc in next ch-2 sp, *sc in next hdc and in next ch-2 sp, ch 2, skip next RPC, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next hdc, ch 2, skip next RPC, sc in next ch-2 sp, rep from * 2 times more, join with sl st to first sc. (36 sts and 12 sps)
Rnd. 5: Sl st in next sc and next ch-2 sp, ch 3 (counts as first dc, now and throughout), 2 dc in same sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next corner ch-3 sp, ch 1, *(3 dc in next ch-2 sp, ch 1) twice, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next corner ch-3 sp, ch 1, rep from * 2 times more, 3 dc in last ch-2 sp, ch 1, join with sl st to first dc. (48 dc and 16 sps)
Rnd. 6: Sl st in next 2 dc and in next ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next corner ch 3 sp, ch 1, *(3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) 3 times, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next corner ch-3 sp, ch 1, rep from * 2 times more, (3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) twice, join with sl st to first dc. Finish off.
Rnd. 7: Attach Color A to any corner sp with sl st, ch 2, in same sp work (1 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc), *1 hdc in each dc and in each ch-1 sp to next corner sp,** in corner sp work (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc), rep from * 3 times more ending last rep at **, join with sl st to beg dc. (23 hdc on each side)
Rnd. 8: Ch 4 (count as 1 dc, ch 1), skip 1 dc, *in corner work (1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc), [ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next hdc] 11 times, ch 1, skip 1 dc, rep from * 2 times more, work corner, [ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next hdc] 10 times, join with sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch-4. (12 ch-1 sps on each side)
Rnd. 9: Sl st into next ch-1 sp, ch 4 (count as 1 dc, ch 1), *in corner sp work (1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc), [ch 1, 1 dc in next ch-1 sp] 12 times, ch 1, rep from * 2 times more, work corner, [ch 1, 1 dc in next ch-1 sp] 11 times, ch 1, join with sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch-4. (13 ch-1 sps on each side)
Rnd. 10: Sl st into next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 2 sc in same sp, work 5 sc in each corner sp and 2 sc in each ch-1 sp around square, join with sl st to beg sc. Finish off Color A. (30 sc on each side – not counting corner middle sc)
Rnd. 11: Attach Color D to a middle sc of any corner, ch 3, in same st work (1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), *work 1 dc in each sc to corner, in middle sc work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), rep from * around square, join with sl st to beg dc. (34 dc on each side)
Rnd. 12: Sl st into next dc and into corner sp, ch 3, in same sp work (1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), *dc in next 2 sts, [BPDC in next 6 sts, dc in next 6 sts] twice, BPDC in next 6 sts, dc in next 2 sts,** in corner work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), rep from * around square ending last rep at **, join with sl st to beg dc. (38 dc on each side)
Rnd. 13: Sl st into next dc and into corner sp, ch 3, in same sp work (1 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), *BPDC in next 4 sts, [dc in next 6 sts, BPDC in next 6 sts] twice, dc in next 6 sts, BPDC in next 4 sts,** in corner work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), rep from * around square ending last rep at **, join with sl st to beg dc. Finish off, weave in ends, block. (42 dc on each side)
