This is a granny square with no holes. I use it quite frequently, and will use it for my Hello Kitty afghan also. One can make the square any size desired. The look of the square is quite versatile, as the color changes are discretionary.

UNHOLEY GRANNY SQUARE

For those who want a solid granny square without all the holes.
SKILL LEVEL: Beginner
MATERIALS: Worsted weight yarn
Crochet hook size H / 5.0 mm
Tapestry needle
PATTERN NOTES: Increases for each consecutive round is indicated in paranthesis ( ). Work rounds 3-10 exactly the same, except insert the increase in stitches as indicated and work them accordingly.
To make a 12” square, I used 9 rounds of dc and one of sc. Measure your square frequently to see what stitch you will need to use on Rnd. 10 to achieve a 12” square.
When changing colors, draw the next color through the last two loops of the stitch; complete stitch.
Commence Pattern:
Ch 4.
Rnd. 1: 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 2, *3 dc in same ch, ch 2, rpt from * twice more, join with sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch 4. Pull tail to close hole.
Rnd. 2: Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, *in ch-2 sp work 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, work 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, rpt from * twice more, in ch-2 sp work 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3.
Rnds. 3 - 10: Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 4 (6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18) dc, *in corner work 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, work 1 dc in each of next 7 (11, 15, 19, 23, 27, 31, 35) dc, rpt from * twice more, in corner work 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, work 1 dc in each of next 2 (4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16) dc, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3.
Note: If using the sc for Rnd. 10, work 3 sc in each corner space.
After Rnd. 10, finish off, weave in ends, block.
